Taste and Aroma
The flavor of red chili powder depends on the variety of red chilies used to make the powder. The taste can be described as pungent.
Quick Kitchen Tips
Store chili in a cool, dry environment, preferably in the refrigerator. Buy the amount that you think you will be able to use within one year.
Dried chili is not directly comparable to fresh as it depends on the chili variant that is being compared, i.e. the level of spiciness can vary greatly.
How to use when cooking:
Chili powder is often used as an ingredient in stews and as a rub for grilled meats. But you can also use chili powder as a substitution for a plain, unblended pepper to enhance the flavors and degree of spiciness of your recipe.

Chilli & Lime Flat-Iron Steak
Combine the brown sugar with canola oil, chile powder, cumin and salt.
Rub the mixture gently and evenly over the steak and let the meat marinade for at least 10 minutes.
Grill the steak on medium heat for about 4 minutes from each side. If you like the steak to be well done, leave it for another few minutes on the grill. Take the meat off the grill and let it stand for 10 minutes.
In the meantime warm the tortillas and cut the lime into wedges. Cut the steak into slices and place on the warmed tortillas and garnish with the lime wedges.
